We were talking the other day about landlines. I still have one but I never use it. In fact, I would get rid of it but I've been told my bill would go UP!

Fox and Consumer Reports recently did a survey. They polled 44,000 Americans and it gives us some insight into why people keep their home landlines:

  • 53% "I have always had a phone line."
  • 40% "My home phone service is in a bundled plan with other services and I would lose a good rate if I dropped it."
  • 37% "I'm not sure I can rely on cell phone service if I have an emergency."
  • 31% "My home service has much better sound quality than my cell phone service."
  • 30% "I don't want to give up my phone number."
  • 21% "I use my home phone line for business purposes/home office/faxing."
  • 18% My home security system requires a traditional home phone."
  • 18% "Cell phone service is unavailable or unreliable at home."
