Overnight lane closures will begin Thursday night on the Braga Bridge in Fall River.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says one westbound lane on I-195 will be closed from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday.

Officials say the closure is needed so that emergency repairs can be performed on expansion joints in the two right lanes.

During the work, one lane of westbound traffic will remain open.

Both lanes will be open once the work is completed.

A weekend closure will then begin on the eastbound side of I-195.

MassDOT officials say the closure will begin on 10 p.m. Friday and last until 7 a.m. Sunday.

During the closure emergency repairs will be made to expansion joints in the the right two lanes.

MassDOT officials say the repairs must be made prior to the shifting traffic on the bridge for the next phase of the rehabilitation work.

The right lane of I-195 eastbound will remain open and, once the work is completed, the two lanes of traffic will be open.

Motorists are being advised to seek alternate routes.

MassDOT says the project is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
