Lots of boats are in the water this weekend off Fort Tabor in New Bedford. That's the site of the Buzzards Bay 420 Championships.

Hundreds of young boaters are competing for trophies, some from as far away as Chicago, New Orleans and communities up and down the East Coast.

Mayor Jon Mitchell took in the opening competition on Friday, and said the view was spectacular. "Fort Tabor-Fort Rodman is such a great place to watch sailing events because the races are happing right offshore, so you can sit there out on the lawn and watch a very competitive sail boat race, and its right out in front of you."

Helping out with the competition this weekend is the New Bedford-based Community Boating Center and organizers with the Buzzards Bay Regatta.
