YMCA SouthCoast and the Buzzards Bay Coalition are joining forces to bring discounted temporary membership rates and special programs for potential Buzzards Bay Swim participants in search of pool access and training ahead of the event on Saturday, June 22.

"Register for the Buzzards Bay Swim, and you'll get access to short-term memberships and classes with YMCA Southcoast to help you train. (Details emailed upon registration)." Plus, there's NO joiners fee, so you can go "from Couch to Swim” by June 22.

The first session of adult swim training classes starts on Monday, February 25, but the second session starts on Monday, April 22. So you still have time to train with this program even if you miss the first boat.

"The Buzzards Bay Swim features a one-of-a-kind scenic point-to-point course across outer New Bedford Harbor. Assisted by a robust safety patrol, swimmers navigate 1.2 miles through the harbor and channel, passing by the iconic Butler Flats Lighthouse and the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier, one of the largest stone structures on the East Coast. At the thrilling finish, swimmers are welcomed with a beach party featuring a live steel drum band, pancakes cooked to order, gourmet coffee, free massages, and local beer for those who are over 21.

The Buzzards Bay Swim is a fundraiser for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a nonprofit that works to protect clean water in our region. $25 registration fee and $150 fundraising minimum (pay-or-raise) includes parking, shuttle service, bag check, swim cap, chip timing, snacks, breakfast, beverages, event t-shirt, water bottle, live music, post-swim massage, awards, prizes, and a hefty bronze finisher's medal custom made by local artisans. Qualifications apply. Special rates are available for youth teams."
