The New York Yankees are taking a wait and see approach to Alex Rodriguez for next season.

Manager Joe Girardi said during Monday's season-ending press conference that "A-Rod" will likely be the team's starting third baseman next year, but they'll have to see where he's at physically next spring.

Rodriguez turns 40 years old next July and missed all of this year while serving a season-long suspension for his role in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal.

The three-time American League MVP has three years and 61-million-dollars left on his contract. "A-Rod" is six home runs shy of tying Hall of Famer Willie Mays for fourth on baseball's all-time home run list with 660.

That would net him a six-million-dollar bonus. (Metro Networks Inc)
