The Buttonwood Park Zoo said goodbye to a beloved creature this morning.

The Zoo is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved American Milking Devon Oxen, Wyatt. Wyatt arrived at the Zoo in 2001 and was 23 years of age at his passing. Over the last year, the Zoo’s animal and veterinary care staff has been monitoring and treating Wyatt for age-related ailments including arthritis in his leg joints. As time progressed, the Zoo’s robust treatment of Wyatt’s arthritis had become less effective and unfortunately, his mobility had recently become significantly compromised. It was with heavy hearts that the Zoo made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Wyatt this morning. Zoo guests, staff, and volunteers will sorely miss this wonderful animal and dear Zoo friend.
Wyatt will be missed by all, including the little boys and girls who made a point of visiting his area at the zoo. Rest in peace, Wyatt!
