Worst Video Game Ever Out Of Landfill, Up For Sale
A video game that's widely considered to be the worst ever made is going up for auction today.
Copies of 1982's "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" were recently unearthed from a landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
The fact that the Atari cartridges ended up there was the result of epic commercial failure.
Almost nobody liked the game, which played a role in Atari's huge financial problems in 1982 and 1983.
The general awfulness of the Atari 2600 game is largely attributed to the developer, who had only five and-a-half weeks to create it.
In 1983, more than a dozen semi-trailer trucks dumped the unwanted games in the landfill.
The local historical society is putting 100 copies up on eBay to start, and may eventually sell as many as 800.
