The American Bus Association has named New Bedford's Working Waterfront Festival one of North America's "Top 100 Events" for 2016.

The list will be published in Destination Magazine this fall, and should bring more more bus tours to New Bedford in the future.

Tourism Director Dagny Ashley tells WBSM News, professional tour planners are looking for events like the Working Waterfront Festival. "They're looking for that authentic, unique, interactive experience and the Working Waterfront Festival is that kind of event, " said Ashley.

Visits by motorcoach busses can also benefit local businesses. Researchers say an overnight stay by a motorcoach group can result in a $25,000 boost to the local economy.

This year's festival is scheduled for Sept. 26 And 27 on New Bedford's waterfront.
