The future home of Wynn's glitzy Boston-area casino is showing signs of life

Construction equipment and workers began showing up Thursday at the 33-acre waterfront site in Everett.

The Las Vegas-based company is planning to build a $1.7 billion resort complex with a 600-room hotel, casino, shopping, dining, entertainment and a public waterfront area.

Wynn Resorts said Thursday's activity represented ``pre-construction'' work.

Environmental cleanup of the former Monsanto Chemical plant property will start at the end of the year. The resort is expected to open in 2018.

The activity comes about two weeks after Wynn received a key state environmental certificate, capping a contentious, three-year public review.

The project, billed as the largest private development in Massachusetts history, will involve 4,000 construction jobs.  (Associated Press)
