Fairhaven Police say a woman, apparently confused because of poor visibility Wednesday morning, drove her car down the Bridge Street boat ramp into New Bedford Harbor.

The woman is identified as 32-year-old Tami Pitter of Rochester.

Police say the operator managed to escape the vehicle through a passenger side window and make her way to shore.  Sgt. Kevin Kobza says the car was submerged in about six feet of water when Police arrived.

It was eventually pulled from the harbor by Big Wheel Towing.  The operator was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for examination.
