A particularly harsh, and large, spate of weather has been pummeling much of the Eastern half of the country, with recent incidents affecting residents as far north as Wisconsin and Michigan and all the way down to Georgia and Alabama, even stretching westward into Texas.

Tornado watches are in effect in parts of states including Alabama, Georgia and both Carolinas. The National Weather Service has already reported severe weather in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana. Some incidents of note are:

  • Extreme winds (possibly tornadoes) in Tennessee have damaged buildings and left up to 14,000 without power
  • A tornado touched down Wednesday in Adairsville in northwestern Georgia, destroying one home and overturning cars
  • The roof of the Penrod Missionary Baptist Church in Kentucky was blown off

Flood warnings have been issued for states stretching from Michigan down to Louisiana. Heavy rains are expected to cause winter storms across the northern Plains states.
