In my ongoing blog of “What’s New?” on the Southcoast, the Westport Land Conservation Trust is preparing for its grand opening of its latest destination property, the Noquochoke Conservation Area (418 Pine Hill Road), on Wednesday, May 18, at 5:30pm.

After the conclusion of the hike at the property, the WLCT will hold its annual meeting at 6:30pm.

According to South Coast Today.com, the land was “acquired in 2012 through the generous land gift of Lucy Keefe.” The property in the forest covers three quarters of a mile of trails.

The WLCT will also give its first Conservationist Award to the Roberts Family, which donated 66 acres adjacent to Dunham’s Brook Conservation Area, and Jennifer Dubois, who is a longtime champion of land protection in Westport.

The land trust also will present a Volunteer Award to WLCT’s Tuesday Trail Team. In the event of inclement weather, the annual meeting will be held at the Westport Grange (931 Main Road) at 6:30pm.
