The New Bedford Whaling Museum is receiving a $128,000 grant to continue its High School Apprentice Program for a fourth year.

The Museum's Director of Development Allison Smart is in Washington to accept the grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The Whaling Museum hires area high school students, and pays them a competitive wage.

They receive extensive training and mentoring from museum staff,  and end up working on many museum projects, doing research, developing web content, and helping with exhibit design.
