The iconic New Bedford "Whaleman Statue" has once again been vandalized.

It's at least the second time in a year that the tip of the harpoon has been damaged.

A crack on the harpoon was noticed last week. Mayor Jon Mitchell says the statue sustained further damage.

No arrests have been made nor have charges been filed in the vandalism of the statue.

Mitchell says any protective measures, such as re-erecting a wrought-iron fence or posting signage near the statue would have little impact on the statue's well-being.
