WESTPORT — Westport voters approved the building of a new school Tuesday night.

The Herald News reports the debt exclusion to build a new middle and high school facility passed by a 3,108 to 1,789 margin.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority will pick up about $38 million of the cost to build the new school, leaving Westport taxpayers on the hook for about $58.8 million, spread out over a 30-year bond.

The school will likely open by the 2021-22 school year.
