Westport High School graduate Luke Carreiro died unexpectedly last week while serving on a U.S. Army installation in North Carolina.

According to The Herald News, the 26-year-old was found unresponsive last Wednesday at Fort Bragg where he was stationed as a U.S. Army mental health specialist.

Carreiro's mother, Marie Carreiro, says the family doesn't know the cause of death, and may have to wait several months. The death is being investigated by the Army's Criminal Investigation Command, which is standard procedure for deaths on Army installations.

Carreiro enlisted in 2008 and deployed to Iraq for a combat tour in 2011.

His casket will arrive at T.F. Green Airport Saturday and escorted by members of the Fall River Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police and Rhode Island State Police to Hathaway Home for Funerals in Fall River.

Governor Charlie Baker has ordered all U.S. and Massachsuetts flags to be flown at half-staff Monday in Carreiro's honor.
