Westport Sex Offender Arrested on New Charge in Seekonk

A registered Level Three sex offender from Westport is under arrest.

Police say 37-year-old Robert Assad of Borden Street was being sought after in an ongoing investigation by Westport Police. When officers arrived at his home to question him Wednesday morning, Assad was nowhere to be found.

Investigators soon discovered Assad had recently been ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device, which enabled them to locate Assad in Seekonk.

Assad was arrested behind the Seekonk Sam's Club, and has been arraigned in Fall River District Court on a charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years old.

The victim in the investigation is 5-years-old, and is known to Assad's family.
