With a 3-0 vote on Thursday, the Westport School Committee has approved an agreed contract settlement with the Westport Federation of Teachers.

Superintendent Dr. Ann Dargon confirmed the agreement in an e-mail sent to WBSM News.

“While the process was long and arduous, we believe that at this time the contract is fair and reasonable,” said Dargon “Our teachers work hard each and every day. It is hoped that now that we have an agreed contract we can get back to educating our students with little to no distractions."

Federation President Andrew Cottrill also expressed his support for the new agreement.

"We are happy that we have come to an agreement that will begin to close the pay scale gap between Westport Teachers and teachers in surrounding districts,” said Cottrill “We look forward to working cooperatively with the school committee and the superintendent to do what we do best, teach."

Negotiations over a new contract had been ongoing since November 2013 with previous agreements being rejected by the school committee or voided due to voting issues.
