WESTPORT — A lengthy joint investigation led to the arrest of a Westport man Monday on child pornography charges.

The investigation, conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit (CCU) and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, began back in January, 2018 when the CCU received information from a blogging site about someone who had uploaded images depicting nude, prepubescent males being posed in a lascivious manner.

Trooper Robert Smith of the CCU was able to identify the suspected uploader as 50-year-old Raymond G. Gagne of Westport. Trooper Smith subsequently applied for and received a search warrant for Gagne’s home.

Trooper Smith, along with other members of the CCU, members of the State Police Computer Forensic Unit and Crime Scene Services Section, and Detective Robert Rebello of the Westport Police Department conducted a search of Gagne’s residence Monday, and located thousands of images and videos believed to be child pornographic in nature.

Gagne was subsequently placed under arrest on four counts of possession of child pornography and booked at the Westport Police Department.

He was released on personal recognizance following the payment of a $40 clerk’s fee, pending his arraignment in Fall River District Court today.
