New Bedford Police Detectives tipped off Westport Police about the sale of illegal weapons from a gun store in their town.  The gun store owner was later charged.

Following a two-week investigation, Westport Police have charged 67 year old Richard Pacheco, the owner of Richie's Sporting Supply, with 13 felony counts of improper sale of a firearm.

According to the Herald News, New Bedford Detectives notified  Westport Police that a man applying for a job in their department had purchased an illegal weapon at Pacheco's store on Mouse Mill Road.

Police say the weapon, a Glock 23-model, 40-caliber handgun, is not supposed to be sold to civilians.

Police began an investigation and charged Pacheco this week.  He was arraigned Tuesday in Fall River District Court and returns to court August 18th for a pretrial hearing.
