The Westport Fishermen’s Association’s 5th Annual Striped Bass & Bluefish Fishing Tournament will open for pre-registered contestants from July 8 to 16.

According to South Coast Today.com, $250 will be awarded for the first place contestant for the largest-weight striped bass, and $100 will be awarded for the contestant with the largest-weight bluefish. Prizes, including gift certificates and fishing gear, will be awarded for contestants in the other categories. The contest concludes with a barbecue and awards ceremony at the Horseneck Point lifesaving station at 4pm on Saturday, July 16. The official weigh-in station for the tournament will be Westport Bait & Tackle, which is located on 1111 Main Road, and will weigh in fish during their normal business hours (6am to 6pm).

There will be two divisions consisting of an adult division and a youth 15 and under division. The registration fee is $40 for adults and $10 for youth and the deadline for mail-in registrations will be July 4.  Online registrations will run until July 7. All participants who register for the derby will receive a free t-shirt and free admission to the barbecue. Raffle prizes will also be available to those who attend the awards ceremony and barbecue.
