WESTPORT — A morning fire in Westport is under control.

Captain Michael Silvia of the Westport Fire Department says the department received a report of a structure fire at a home at 11 Acushnet Avenue in the town at about 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded and reported seeing flames coming from the roof of the one-story wood frame house.

After firefighters confirmed that all occupants of the home were safely outside, they began an interior attack into the attic area. Captain Silvia says despite the sub-freezing temperatures and windy conditions, firefighters were able to contain the fire damage to the attic area, while the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage.

No injuries were reported.

Officials estimate the fire caused $50,000 in damage. The fire appears to have started in the bathroom ceiling before extending into the attic. The fire remains under investigation.
