West Nile Virus has been detected in Fall River.

Mayor Sam Sutter's office says the announcement was made by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health concerning mosquitos collected near St. Patrick's Cemetery.

In response Sutter says the Bristol County Mosquito Control Project will begin ground spraying in the nearby area early Friday morning between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Residents in the area are being advised to close their windows and stay inside before the spraying begins.

“As a precaution, all residents who live in the area should keep their windows closed and refrain from going outside between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.," said Sutter "In addition, caregivers should ensure that children, elderly relatives and friends as well as pets follow these guidelines."
