A smokey fire Friday afternoon at 1315 Brigham Street in New Bedford kept firefighters busy for more than two hours.

Fire crews responded to the fire just after 2pm.  Chief Michael Gomes says the building was fully involved when firefighters arrived....

Gomes says the fire appeared to have started on the second floor and spread to the attic and the roof.

Four people and two pets were displaced by the fire, and the Red Cross was called in to assist.

Gomes says the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to be accidential in nature.
