Fighting back against attacks on public education is the subject of a conference Saturday morning in New Bedford.  The conference begins at 8am with registration at Keith Middle School.  Organizers point to Charter schools and other plans to privatize education as attacks on  public education.  Jose Solar of the UMass Dartmouth Labor Education Center beleives New Bedford needs to talk about the future of public schools..

Among the participants in Saturday's conference will be a member of the Chicago Teachers Union that recently won a new contract after a strike at the start of the school year, and teachers from Lawrence Mass., a school district that has been taken over  by the state.
