Carl Alves, Director of PAACA, joined The Barry Richard Show Monday afternoon to discuss the opioid crisis, both nationally and locally.

Alves recently attended the National Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, which featured speakers like Sen. Ed Markey, Kellyanne Conway, Bill Clinton and Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams.

He said about 3,000 people were in attendance, including members of law enforcement, treatment providers, addiction advocates and street outreach providers.

Alves also pointed out it is a bipartisan event.

"The bottom line, we're trying to make a difference and stop the crisis," he said.

Alves and Richard also discussed whether or not addiction is a disease, how PAACA helps those battling addiction, and more.
