With water leaks still costing the town money, Acushnet officials say fixing the issues would mean lower rates for residents.

The town's Board of Selectmen reviewed this year's water report on Monday. Chairman David Wojnar tells WBSM News once more leaks are fixed residents can expect friendlier rates.

"As we're still trying to get a clearer picture on what our water situation is, we believe it ultimately will provide some relief to the residents. We're not sure at what point, you know, how much at this point. We're still pulling that information together, and we still have to set our rates a little later in the summer," Wojnar said.

According to the report, Acushnet's total water loss is down 5% since the Board of Selectmen took over water and sewer control from the Department of Public Works last year.
