Warriors Win At Home To Clinch 2nd Title In 3 Years

The Golden State Warriors are officially back on top of the basketball world, thanks to their 129-120 Game 5 win to clinch an NBA title over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Monday night.  

Up three games to one in last year's NBA Finals, the Warriors were stunned by the Cavs, who rattled off three straight wins to steal the title away from the team that won a historic 73 regular season games.

This time around, Golden State, strengthened by the addition of NBA superstar Kevin Durant, made sure that what happened last season would not repeat itself.

Up, once again, three games to one, the Warriors put last year's disaster to rest. Led by Durant, who poured in a team-high 39 points, and Stephen Curry, who added a cool 34 points, Golden State sailed for most of the game.

Cleveland, who handed the Warriors their first and only loss of the postseason loss in Game 4, fought back in the second half, but couldn't clear the hurdle that was the explosive Golden State offense.

Though he tallied a game-high 41 points to go along with 13 rebounds and eight assists, Lebron James came up on the short end of a league title for the fifth time in his career.

Durant, who was heavily scrutinized by media, fans and peers alike for his decision to join Golden State as a free agent this past offseason, helped put a lot of that scrutiny to rest with a dominant postseason and otherworldly Finals appearance. Over the five games, the veteran forward averaged 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists a game, to help earn himself Finals MVP honors. 

While Durant was spectacular and completely deserving of taking home MVP honors, it should not go unnoticed that James averaged a triple-double throughout the Finals for Cleveland.
