NEW BEDFORD — Members of the New Bedford Police narcotics unit made two arrests Wednesday as part of their effort to target street-level narcotics sales in the West End.

Police approached a suspect known to have warrants. Further investigation indicated that a male with him was in possession of 5.5 grams of heroin and a Suboxone strip.

Steven Pacheco, 42, of 434 Cottage St. Apt. 3R, New Bedford, was arrested for possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of Suboxone and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, subsequent offense. He was committed for 59 days on Oct. 29, 2001 for possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Police also arrested Michael Silvares, 24, of 33 Sidney St. Apt. 2, New Bedford, on three warrant offenses.

The arrests were made at 4:04 p.m.
