A Wareham man is facing charges after allegedly shoplifting and fleeing from police.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh says that at approximately 3:15 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to WalMart where a man was observed stealing items from the store before fleeing in a gray SUV southbound on Route 28 (Cranberry Highway) after being confronted by store security personnel.

An officer observed the vehicle going past the intersection of Gibbs Ave. and Main St.

Walsh says the vehicle then sped up and tried to avoid being pulled over until it was stopped roughly one mile away on Route 28 south.

Once the vehicle was stopped officers were able to locate the items which had been stolen from WalMart, including a cell phone charger unit and the owner's manual for a cell phone.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, 51-year-old Glenn Proctor, was arrested and charged with Shoplifting (3rd Offense), Failure to Stop for Police, Operating After License Revocation, and Marked Lanes Violations.
