Wareham Police Solve Break-In Using DNA
A homeless Wareham man is behind bars after breaking into a Speedy Mart in July.
Wareham Police say 22-year-old Matthew DeCosta broke into the Rt 28 Speedy Mart on July 27th, and escaped the scene, leaving traces of his blood behind.
Blood samples sent to a lab in Boston came back as a match for DeCosta. Wareham Police obtained a warrant, and arrested DeCosta on Tuesday.
DeCosta was arraigned in Wareham District Court on charges of breaking and entering and malicious destruction over $250.
Police say it's the first breaking and entering case to be solved in Wareham using DNA technology where the suspect was completely unknown.
