WAREHAM — On Monday, February 20 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Wareham Police, EMS, and Wareham Fire Department personnel responded to a reported head-on collision motor vehicle accident in the area of the entrance to Garden Homes North on Rte. 28 (Cranberry Highway).

Upon arrival, officers noticed two vehicles with extensive damage, and reported serious injuries sustained by the drivers of the vehicles and at least one of the two passengers in a second vehicle. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle traveling north on Rte. 28 was transported to Tobey Hospital via EMS to be treated for a possible head injury. The operator and front passenger of the southbound vehicle were transported via ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of apparent head and chest injuries. A second passenger in the southbound vehicle, who was positioned in the rear seat, was transported to Tobey Hospital to be checked for injuries.

Names of the injured parties will not be released at this time. The driver and sole occupant of the northbound vehicle who was transported to Tobey Hospital was a 27-year-old male Wareham resident. The driver of the southbound vehicle was a 23-year-old Wareham resident, and the front passenger in the southbound vehicle was a 58-year-old Wareham resident, while the rear passenger was a 21-year-old Wareham woman.

Investigation of the accident is ongoing by Wareham Police, although preliminary investigation indicates the operator of the southbound vehicle veered left and traveled into the northbound lane at the time of the collision.
