WAREHAM — On Monday, December 11th at approximately 11:30 p.m., Wareham Police officers were dispatched to the Cumberland Farms store on Depot Street, regarding the report of a vehicle and possible intoxicated operator in the parking lot.

Upon arrival at the store, Officer Nate Aronson noticed the vehicle leave the parking lot and travel onto Cranberry Highway. Officer Aronson attempted to stop the vehicle, which failed to stop when signaled and accelerated eastbound on Cranberry Highway until taking a left turn onto Redbrook Road. The vehicle then continued into the Bayhead Shores neighborhood of Bourne off Head of the Bay Road, where the male operator veered into some brush and fled on foot.

The male, later identified as 37-year-old South Plymouth resident Kenneth Lounge, was found in the area within a short period of time by WPD K-9 Officer Phinney and his partner “Rolf”, with the assistance of Wareham and Bourne PD officers.

In addition to being charged with multiple criminal motor vehicle charges, Lounge was also charged with possession of a Class A substance (heroin), when approximately 1 gram of heroin was found in a folded piece of paper on the front dashboard of his vehicle.

Kenneth Lounge was placed under arrest at the scene and criminally charged with: operating after license revocation (habitual offender); failure to stop for police; operating to endanger; speeding; and possession of a Class A substance (heroin).

Lounge was arraigned Tuesday in Wareham District Court.
