WAREHAM — On Saturday, August 25 at about 6:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of Cranberry Highway for a report of an erratic operator. Officers began checking and received updated information that the vehicle was headed to an address on Edgewater Drive. Officer Pacheco went to the address in question when the suspect vehicle pulled in the driveway.

The operator of the car, Robert A. Place, 48, of Wareham was immediately uncooperative with police. After investigation, it was determined that Place was driving impaired with a minor child in the car.

Place was then handcuffed, but resisted by trying to pull away from the officers, screaming and yelling, and causing a disturbance. He was transported to Police Headquarters where he was held on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled for appearance in Wareham District Court on Monday to face the following charges;

· Operating under the influence of alcohol
· Child endangerment while operating under the influence
· Open container of alcohol
· Operating to endanger
· Disorderly conduct
· Disturbing the peace
· Resisting arrest

“Sadly, we have a child that was put in harm's way because of the actions of an adult. One of our most important duties is protecting those that cannot protect themselves.” Acting Police Chief John Walcek said. “The officers responding to this incident took immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety of the child."
