On Thursday, July 13th at approximately 5:30 p.m., Wareham Police Officers Jennifer Braley and Jamie White responded to Main Street at Stoney Run Drive, regarding a reported single motor vehicle accident in which a phone pole was struck. Responding officers were also advised the male operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was attempting to walk away from the scene.

Officers arrived in the area and spoke with the male walking away, who was identified as 38-year-old Shawn Savary of Wareham. Upon noticing he was not injured, but that he appeared confused and intoxicated, officers requested that Savary perform several sobriety tests, which he failed after admitting to ingesting drugs just prior to the accident.

The crash resulted in extensive damage to the 2006 pickup truck operated by Savary, and to the telephone pole at the corner of Stoney Run Drive.

Savary was placed under arrest at the scene and charged with OUI drugs, then was found to be in possession of five loose and unidentified strips of suspected suboxone.

Savary was arrested and charged with OUI drugs; leaving the scene after causing property damage; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; and possession of a Class B substance (suboxone), subsequent offense.

He was scheduled for arraignment today in Wareham District Court.
