NEWPORT, R.I. — A mother and daughter who were in a bus that crashed after being run off the road by an alleged drunk driver are suing the woman believed to be responsible for the crash.

The Herald News reports that a civil suit was filed in Newport County Superior Court on Wednesday by Tiverton residents Tiffany Briere and her daughter against Christy Gilpatrick, 27, of Warren. The suit alleges that the crash, believed to be caused by Gilpatrick, caused Briere and her daughter to suffer serious injuries to both body and mind, and seeks a jury trial against Gilpatrick, as well as damages.

Gilpatrick was released on $2,500 bail after being arrested Saturday night for drunken driving in connection with the bus-involved crash in Berkley. 25 people on board the bus were transported to area hospitals, including two adults with serious injuries.
