Update: Pedestrian Hurt In Monday Night Crash Identified

Authorities have now identified a man seriously hurt when struck by a car Monday night in New Bedford.

Police say 57 year old Benjamin Shurtleff of Union Street was hit while attempting to cross County Street, near Madison.

Shurtleff was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, then transported by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital. As of Tuesday afternoon, he's listed in critical condition in the trauma I-C-U.

The driver of the car is cooperating with police. He reportedly told police he was heading north on County with his headlights on, and did not see the victim. Police continue to investigate.
