How are we supposed to know what compounds found in supplements could be injurious to our health? Thank goodness for blogs like this one and researchers at Harvard Medical School, where they discovered that many exercise powders and pills contain large amounts of a stimulant called DMBA. The FDA banned something similar in 2012 called DMAA because it was related to heart attacks, nervous system disorders and even caused death. Researchers are very suspicious that the makers of some energy exercise products have simply changed the name of DMAA to DMBA.

You are exercising to maintain good fitness and optimum health, not to be stopped in your tracks because of large amounts of a synthetic stimulant that was banned for causing major health risks! While scientists are working to get to the bottom of this, manufacturers are taking advantage of the down time because they know the FDA can't ban a product until it undergoes full testing.

In the meantime, I have listed some of the name brands that DMBA was found in large quantities. They include:

  • Frenzy (Driven Sports)
  • Contraband (Iron Forged Nutrition)
  • Redline White Heat, MD2 Meltdown (Vital Pharmaceuticals Inc.)
  • Evol, Decimate Amplified   (Genomyx LLC)
  • Oxyfit Xtreme, Synetherm (planetarynutrition.com)
  • AMPitropin, AMPilean (Lecheek Nutrition)
  • OxyTHERMPro (deNOVOLABS)
  • OxyphenXR AMP'D (Beta Labs Ltd.)
