UMass system President Robert Caret's bus tour stopped Thursday at the UMass School of Marine Science and Technology in New Bedford.  Caret uses the tour as a fact-finding mission to learn what's going on throughout the UMass community, and find  out what employees and community leaders are thinking.  Caret said he enjoyed his meeting with marine scientists in New Bedford.

Caret talked with marine scientists and viewed demonstrations of underwater equipment used to measure fish stocks.  He also said he wasn't happy with NOAA's decision to cut the SMAST research budget, and is looking for ways to help restore the money.

UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman and Mayor Jon Mitchell joined Caret during his stop in New Bedford.  The tour continued on to Fall River and Worcester later in the day.
