Dozens of high school students from all over the region gathered at UMass Dartmouth this weekend along with their teachers, taking part in a custom-designed robot competition.

The event is sponsored by FIRST --- a not-for- profit organization seeking to inspire young people to be math and science leaders.

Judge Candida Desjardins of the Naval Underwater Warfare Center in Newport, says the students have been preparing for the competition for the past six weeks.

Sam Dahlberg of Acushnet is a sophomore at Fairhaven High School. He's part of a team out of Rhode Island competing in this weekend's event.....
