Payers were spoken, poems were read, and thoughts were shared during a candlelight vigil at UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening.

Students, staff, and religious leaders came together at the Clair T. Carney Library to pay tribute to the victims of recent terrorist attacks and hate crimes around the world.

Firas Sammoura spoke on behalf of the university's Muslim Student Association and says a major key to solving the problem is making people aware through education.

The sophomore says UMass is a great example of how society should be.

Other members of student organizations, faith leaders, and Chancellor Divina Grossman also made remarks focusing on the need to rid fear and hate from society.

The candles held by attendees offered hope that all people will be treated with equal respect.
