UMass Dartmouth receives national recognition for research performed on the campus.

The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education has designated the Dartmouth campus as a "Doctoral University - Higher Research Activity."

UMass Dartmouth spokesman John Hoey tells WBSM News the classification has several benefits. "It's going to help us attract talent in the form of even additional excellent faculty. It's going to help us retain that kind of talent. It's also going to help us attract and retain terrific students at both an undergraduate and graduate level," says Hoey.

The designation raises the campus' profile from it's previous "Master's University" status. The "Doctoral University" classification is the second of three levels for research classification.
