Officials at UMass Dartmouth announced the University's 50 Most Transformative Moments during a ceremony Friday night in the Claire T. Carney Library.

Those moments include the groundbreaking for the Dartmouth campus in 1964, joining the University of Massachusetts system in 1991, and creation of the UMass Law School at Dartmouth in 2010.

Eighty-five year old Donald Gregory Wood has seen most of those big moments. He graduated from the Bradford Durfee College of Technology in Fall River in 1960.

He has taught at UMass Dartmouth and currently teaches at Bristol Community College. Wood says having a university on the Southcoast, serves as a constant reminder to young people about the importance of higher education....

Also saluted last night was former Chancellor Jean MacCormack. A plaque honoring MacCormack was unveiled in the library's leadership walkway.

MacCormack was named Chancellor in 1999. During her tenure, the University saw great expansion, not only on the Dartmouth campus, but in Fall River and Downtown New Bedford as well.

MacCormack is currently the interim President of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute.
