New Bedford Police are investigating a double shooting Wednesday morning in the North End. Det. Captain Steve Vicente says two people were shot just before 8am as they were getting into their car at North Front and Tinkham Streets.

The victims said an unknown man approached them and fired into the vehicle. Twenty four year old Angel Acevedo was shot in the jaw area and taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. His girlfriend, 21 year old Lorena Rivera was shot in the calf and treated at St. Luke's Hospital. Both wounds are not considered life threatening.

Capt. Vicente says last May, Acevedo was also shot in the leg while getting out of his car. Anyone with information is being urged to call New Bedford Detectve Macaila Saunders at 508 991-6300, ext. 79515.

There was a second shooting reported early Wednesday afternoon, this time on Beetle St. near Ashley Boulevard.

Det. Captain Vicente says police responded to a report of a fight on Beetle St., where a shot was reportedly fired.

Police found a shell casing on the street, but no victim has come forward and no property damage was found.
