Icy road conditions are being blamed for a Monday morning crash that caused a van to crash into a tree in front of a Somerset home.

A Somerset Fire Lieutenant tells ABC6 that they had to use all the equipment they had to get the injured parties out of the van.

"We had to use the jaws, we had to use the cutters, we had to use all of our tools to get them out," said the Somerset Fire Lieutenant.

There was also damage to the front yard of the Lees River Avenue home but homeowner Chris Messier says it could have been much worse.

"At the time, I'm just praying that my kids weren't waiting for the bus like they normally would be--right here. Thank God it was a holiday," says Messier.

Both passengers in the van were taken to the hospital, with one of them listed in critical condition.
