The roof of a Hyundai had to be peeled back in order to extract the driver after a car collided with a box truck Wednesday morning on GAR Highway.

According to The Herald News, “one person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries, the second to Charlton Memorial Hospital, after the accident just east of Bushee Road.”

The driver of the car was trapped in her seat and firefighters cut the roof pillar and peeled back the roof to extract the driver without causing additional injury.

In the accident, the front bumper of the truck pushed almost a foot into the interior of the car on the driver’s side, right at the rear of the driver’s side door.

The passenger in the car was also rushed to the hospital for less serious injuries.

Firefighters reported that it took them 16 minutes to extract the driver of the car.
