Two men are being held at the Plymouth County House of Correction after their arrest early Sunday in Wareham.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh says 37-year old Jose Madera of Wareham and 63 year old Peter "Bucky" Tavares were arrested in connection with a street fight on Onset Avenue around 1:30am.

Police reported when officers arrived, there were several people were in the area, including the suspects and the victim, who was on the ground suffering from a head laceration and injuries to his legs and arms. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, and was listed Monday in critical condition.

Police also recovered a baseball bat they suspect was used in the beating.

Madera was charged with assault with intent to murder and was held on $50,000 bail.

Tavares allegedly threatened another man with a knife before the fight broke out. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and he's being held on $10,000 bail.
