Trooper Fatally Shoots New Bedford Man in Quincy [UPDATE]
UPDATE 3:15pm - The man fatally wounded in a confrontation with a state trooper this morning is from New Bedford. Authorities say 41-year-old Wilfredo Justiniano was shot in an apparent confrontation with the trooper on Route 28 in Quincy.
The trooper had responded to a call about a vehicle operating erratically in the area.
Justiniano was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton shortly before nine a.m.
A veteran state trooper responding to reports of an erratic driver who may have been having a medical emergency shot and killed the 41-year-old man during a confrontation.
State police commander Col. Timothy Alben said a concerned woman called Milton police just before 8 a.m. Friday to report the erratic driver on Route 28 in Quincy. Milton police transferred the call to state police, who sent a 25-year veteran.
Alben says the trooper and the man, who is from the New Bedford area, were involved in a "violent confrontation'' in which the man was shot. Alben did not say whether the man was armed.
The man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
No names were released.
