Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been detected in a mosquito sample taken last week in Mattapoisett. According to the State Department of Public Health's website, the sample was collected Sept. 16. Mattapoisett is the third Southcoast community in which Triple E has been found. Two pools of infected mosquitoes were found in Freetown on Sept. 12 and one in New Bedford on Sept. 3.

Health officials urge residents to wear protective clothing and use insect repellant, especially at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
