It's going to be quite crowded on local roadways as folks leave their weekend getaway locations and head back home.

State Police expect heavy traffic on all the local highways including Routes 195, 140 and Route 25 coming off Cape Cod. State Police Trooper Todd Nolan said motorists are urged to be ready for a slow commute.

Trooper Nolan also urged motorists to have a supply of water in the car for their vehicle and themselves, and a working cellphone in case of any issues. He said the heaviest travel period is expected between 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and seven o'clock that night. He advised motorists to leave their destinations earlier or leave later in the evening to avoid the congestion.
